Your disk is your business

The short version

• No account, no sign-in.
• No analytics, no tracking pixels, no cookies, in the app or on this website.
• Scans happen locally. Nothing about your files is ever uploaded.
• The sponsor banner is chosen on your computer. Nothing personal is sent to choose it.
• Optional anonymous sponsor stats are daily totals with no identifier of any kind.

What the app sends

SquirrelDisk makes only these requests:

• Update check, at launch (can be turned off in Settings): asks GitHub for the latest release.
• Sponsor list, at launch: downloads squirreldisk.com/ads.json. The request contains only the app version. Everyone receives the same list.
• Sponsor click, only when you click the banner and anonymous stats are on: your browser opens squirreldisk.com/c/<ad>, which contains only the ad id and where the banner was shown (home screen or file list), then redirects to the sponsor.
• Daily view totals, at most once a day and only when anonymous stats are on: how many times each banner was shown, per placement. No timestamps, no device data, no identifier.

Scanning servers or cloud storage connects only to the machines and services you choose, using your own SSH or rclone setup.

How sponsors are chosen

After a scan, the app may work out broad interest categories (for example “software development” or “photo & video”) from folder names and sizes already in memory. It never opens your files. These categories, how full your disk is, and whether an external drive is connected are used only on your computer to pick one banner from the list everyone downloaded. They are never sent anywhere. The banner's “Why this ad?” shows which of your signals matched.

Turn off Personalized sponsors in Settings and only untargeted banners are shown. Turn off Anonymous sponsor stats and no clicks or views are reported at all.

What we store on our servers

• Counters of views and clicks per ad, placement and day. Nothing else.
• We don't store IP addresses, user agents or the requests themselves.
• We never set cookies.
• Sponsors only see totals per ad, placement and day, and any number below 50 is hidden.

This website is hosted on Vercel, which processes requests to deliver the pages. We don't use Vercel Analytics or any other analytics service.

Downloads

Downloads and update checks are served by GitHub, which has its own privacy statement.

Open source

You don't have to take our word for it. Everything the app sends about sponsors is defined in a single file you can read in the source code.
